Pantone Color of the Year 2016: Serenity and Rose Quartz

serenity and rose quartz

Every year in early December, Pantone, the global authority on color, unveils their selection for Color of the Year. Typically, the choice is one color that, while part of a collection of hues that will be dominant through the year in fashion and décor, is expected to take the spotlight. In 2016, Pantone tossed us a curve ball. Dual colors will share the place of honor as Color of the Year: a soft pink called Rose Quartz (Pantone 13-1520) and a muted blue called Serenity (Pantone 15-3919). Together, Serenity and Rose Quartz will help us usher in a new era of the highly anticipated color of the year.

The Color of the Year is determined by a committee with ties to fashion, home design, and color psychology. The members bring varying perspectives to the table, travel the world, observing trends and connecting with people. When they come together, they select what Laurie Pressman, Vice President at Pantone’s color consulting division calls both a “reflection” and an “antidote” for the world we live in.

Serenity and Rose Quartz embody peacefulness and calm to provide a pause from the hustle and bustle, the angst and the frustrations of modern life. It is also a nod to gender equality, with a balance of warm and cool. Both are soft and subtle and capitalize on the recent pastel trend.

We are eagerly looking forward to seeing how some of our favorite designers (including ourselves) will incorporate Serenity and Rose Quartz into 2016! Stay tuned, in the upcoming weeks and months, we’ll share design ideas that will help you learn how to bring the warmth and balance of serenity and rose quartz into your homes.
