Five Fast Curb Appeal Answers

Curb Appeal

Fall is just around the corner, and it is always a good idea to take stock of our property at least once each season. One of the assessments we can do fairly easily is a curb appeal check. Step into the street and take a good look at what others see.

Curb appeal can involve extensive renovations, landscaping contracts, and hours of labor, but it’s also true that there are some quick and easy ways to make a difference in just a few hours on a weekend.

  • Install art.  Art has the unique ability to truly showcase the personality of the person who owns it. Designers have used art indoors for years to add interest and to tell the story of the homeowner. A recent trend of outdoor art installations has been gaining momentum. Choosing weather resistant art is important, but it is key to find a piece that captures your personality.
  • Colorfy! Change the color of your front door to a color that visually pops. Even if your door has been a bright shade for a while, making a change can refresh the appeal. While a classic bright red works, other options exist: fresh green, cerulean, or even daring orange deliver pop. Or for an elegant option, consider a deep ebony door with gorgeous metallic hardware.
  • Harness the power of new hardware. Sometimes all it takes to freshen a front door is to update the handle, choose a unique doorknocker or add a stunning kick plate.
  • Lighten up! Light fixtures at or by the front door are classic, but consider adding lighting as part of the landscaping making your place simply gorgeous at night.
  • Symmetry and balance. The human eye (and brain) seeks balance and evenness. Install planters on either side of the front door, build window boxes on either side of the porch or add symmetrical lighting around the entry.
