Trending Now: High Point Market

High Point Market 2015

We have just returned from six days of inspiration at the High Point Market, the definitive affair in staying current in the ever-changing design landscape.

Vendors, designers and other home design experts from around the world arrive bringing the latest and greatest ideas in home décor. The newest ideas in color, texture, materials use and shape fill  11.5 million square feet of event space.

For six glorious days, the showrooms buzz with excitement about what’s new and fresh in design.  We are enthusiastic about what we have seen and cannot wait to bring it to you.

Prominent trends this year:

  • Color. Bold, bright and reflective of the optimism consumers feel. Along with blue, which has been strong in recent years, we also saw luxurious reds and sunny yellows. Another color story is pink. both pastel and bright! On the softer end: pearly, pink-beige, subtle. No bubble gum shades here, just sophisticated tranquility. On the bold side, hot pink pops!
  • Furnishings with a story.  People love to hear the story, the narrative, the history of a piece. Add to this trend the high value placed on craftsmanship, artisan quality, and attention to detail.
  • A focus on luxury. Optimism is high and is clearly reflected in furnishings swathed in luxurious fabrics, tailored beautifully with elegant finishes. A strong component of this trend is the dominance of gold as the metal of the moment. Mirrors, light fixtures, accessories. Gold leaf, brass, matte and subtle, shiny and strong, even rose gold.
  • Scaled size. Downsizing and tiny houses have increased designers’ interest in making beautiful things smaller in scale.
  • Floral designs. Definitely not your grandmother’s chintz.  Bold, bright and fresh.
